Press Release | Perlas ng Silangan Basketball League launches this Independence Day, June 12th
At the historic Manila Grand Opera Hotel in Manila, Perlas ng Silangan Basketball League or PSBL set to be launched. PSBL is a national developmental league that seeks to farm young sports talents at the grassroots level and provide them with holistic sports and self-development programs to support young people in various regions of the country.
In the backdrop of poverty, lack of education, substance abuse, mental health issues, vice, crime and unemployment among the youth (source: https://legacy.senate.gov.ph) “”) “”) PSBL emerges as a national development league addressing primarily sports development among young people as early as 8 years old to age 22.
The league was founded by the Perlas ng Silangan Sports Ventures, Inc. (PSSVI) together with like-minded sports enthusiasts and local businesses, the project intends to have regional teams under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17 and under 21 play against each other. Regional champions emerging from participating regions will then play against each other where national winners will become champions in Season 1, slated to begin in July until December of this year.
Some public, private and civil society organizations (CSOs) have showed support for PSBL thru its programs for grassroots teams.
Teams coming from CAR, Region 3, NCR, Region 5, Region 7, Region 10 and Davao Region have already signed up. LGUs are already joining PSBL, together with ball clubs and school-based teams across the country.

PSBL differentiates itself by adopting a three-pronged strategy to support youth sports development. It intends to conduct basketball games initially for the first season, but at the same time create critical partnerships with local micro-small and medium industries (MSMEs) and hence, support local tourism. PSBL believes that over the long-run, sports through the support of community stakeholders will create a more effective catalyst for sustainable youth development. It has also partnered with professional people development organizations to provide affirmative values and self-development training as an integral part of PSBL.
