Makati City, Philippines—The Repertory Philippines (REP) kicked off its first-ever original jukebox musical “Going Home to Christmas—A Jose Mari Chan Musical” on 29 November 2024 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, marking the beginning of a limited-run show that celebrates the magic of the season through the timeless music of the Philippines’ beloved “Mr. Christmas,” Jose Mari Chan.
Featuring 22 iconic songs from Jose Mari Chan’s extensive repertoire, including perennial favorites like “Christmas in Our Hearts” and “A Perfect Christmas,” the opening night was a heartwarming celebration of Filipino traditions, beautifully woven into a story about love, family, and homecoming, capturing the true spirit of Christmas that’s so close to the heart of every Filipino.
The musical, arranged by acclaimed Musical Director Ejay Yatco, under the direction of REP Artistic Director Jeremy Domingo and penned by REP stalwarts and Gawad Buhay award winners Luna Griño-Inocian and Robbie Guevara, along with Aliw Awardee Joel Trinidad, weaves together the stories of various characters—OFWs longing for their families, friends rediscovering love, and a couple rekindling their spark.
The production showcases a talented cast led by respected theater actors, including Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Lorenz Martinez, Noel Rayos, Neomi Gonzales, Floyd Tena, Mayen Bustamante-Cadd, Neo Rivera, Justine Narciso, Carla Martinez, and other stellar cast of theater actors delivering stellar performances, bringing to life the joys and heartaches of Filipino families during Christmas season
Jose Mari Chan himself extends his gratitude for making this very special for him and to the Repertory Philippines for choosing his work as their inspiration for this holiday production, expressing his excitement in seeing all the stories and elements that REP has weaved together to add new meaning and life to his songs.
“Going Home to Christmas” aims to create a memorable theater experience for all audiences celebrating the essence and meaning of the season.
