The summit, led by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss strategies for enhancing women’s participation and development in the ICT sector across the region.
The day began with a comprehensive overview of the APEC-DIWA project, which aims to bridge the gender gap in ICT by developing effective policies and frameworks. Subsequent sessions delved into various aspects of women’s involvement in the tech industry, from the challenges faced by young girls in ICT to the effectiveness of existing policies.
A keynote address highlighted the importance of policies and strategic frameworks in enhancing women’s participation and development in the ICT sector. Speakers from co-sponsor economies shared their insights, emphasizing the need for a supportive environment that encourages women to pursue careers in technology.
The summit also featured a panel discussion on the current state of women’s participation in ICT across APEC economies. Participants discussed the pre-event survey results, which provided a comprehensive overview into the challenges and opportunities facing women in the region.
One of the key themes that emerged throughout the day was the need for more inclusive and supportive policies. Participants explored the gaps in existing policies and identified areas where improvements could be made. Additionally, they discussed strategies for translating policy frameworks into concrete actions that would lead to increased female participation in ICT.
The summit concluded with an interactive session where participants shared their thoughts and ideas on the day’s discussions. This provided valuable feedback that will inform future policy development and initiatives.
