Manila, 30 August 2024 — The country’s advertising industry embarks on a 3-year series of events to mark fifty years of self-regulation kicking off in 2024 with Patas na Patalastas: National Summit on Fair and Progressive Advertising Self-regulation that happens September 04-05, 2024 at Makati Diamond Residences.

Highlighting a history-rich journey, the event is headed by the Ad Standards Council (ASC), a coalition of 7 association members representing the stakeholders of the industry.

The advertising and communications landscape is in exciting transitions amid emerging technologies, new methodologies and diverse perspectives from new players and platforms. Patas na Patalastas: National Summit on Fair and Progressive Advertising Self-regulation is focused on uniting industry professionals, veterans and young thought leaders to create a blueprint for progress targeting consumer protection.

The ASC-led event connects the industry dots to create a stronger advertising mindset to better serve the public with truthful and responsible advertising. The ASC trade sector members are: Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (4As PH), Digital Marketing Association of the Philippines (DMAP), Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), Media Specialists Association of the Philippines (MSAP), Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA), United Print Media Group (UPMG), and Out of Home Advertising Agencies of the Philippines (OHAAP).

The Ad Standards Council works in partnership with government entities ensuring that products and promotions adhere to official rules and regulations.

The Road to Regulation, Freedom in Self-Discipline

Do you know that the ad you just saw underwent a process to make sure it’s fair, factual and fit for public consumption? Running on self-regulation, Philippine advertising adheres to guidelines that promote fair-trade practices, presents substantiated claims, and protects the rights of consumers. The ASC is the designated organization that upholds advertising content, creates and abides by its Code of Ethics and Standard Manual of Procedures developed and approved by its members intended to safeguard consumer interest.

Advertising self-regulation is a unique and profound exercise of creative freedom and discipline the industry wants to preserve and future-proof. A catalyst of change, self-regulation is the synergy where right and responsibility work together to mutually benefit the industry and the consumer. Self-regulation upholds high standards, encourages accountability and helps foster consumer trust necessary to generate a healthy advertising ecosystem.

Summit Chairperson, Bobby Barreiro, ABS CBN Chief Partnership Officer says, It is a privilege to be mounting the Summit together with some of the most prolific and dedicated media and advertising practitioners. Keeping self-regulation relevant is our duty as safekeepers. This Summit endeavors to elevate the industry through self-regulation, and use the available tools of technology for good. The Launchpad Event

Patas na Patalastas: National Summit on Fair and Progressive Advertising Self-regulation serves as stakeholder town hall where the event is expected to stimulate interest in the value and relevance of self-regulation moving forward.

To spur discussion, the summit features topics like The Impact of on Business of Fair and Responsible Marketing Communications, as well as Government Partnerships with Private Sector on Self-regulation. With consumer protection as the main target, Protecting the Consumer on the Digital Platform is timely. Supporting topics include panel discussions on Artificial Intelligence, and another on Influencer Marketing, among others. Lending a wider lens, the event features Advertising Self-regulation from a Global Perspective, with a guest from APAC.

From the Steering Committee, Jun Nicdao, one of the ASC founders, KBP Chairman of the Board adds,, “Patas na Patalastas: National Summit on Fair and Progressive Advertising Self-regulation is just the start of the journey of uniting the industry in this shared mission.
