Content Creation and Entrepreneurship
~ CICP addresses challenges, strategies, and a path to survival

It’s a rapidly evolving digital world, and content creation is just one of the shakers in the landscape. While established influencers and content creators have become a formidable force in the marketing and communications industry, there is a whole slew of young aspirants that need that spark of inspiration—and that bit of spice on the side, as well.
The Creator and Influencer Council of the Philippines (CICP), established in 2020 during lockdown, is still at a fledgling state but already establishing itself as the leaders of this space. At the CICP general membership meeting held 26 September at the Bloga Creators Hub, the council gathered a group of well-known creators and influencers, themselves aspiring entrepreneurs, eager to share their creativity and unique perspectives. Host and moderator, CICP president Jako De Leon, ably mined a wealth of wisdom from esteemed panellists.
From his roots as a working student, and a one-time member of the banking workforce, Vince Velasquez is more known for as TV actor, social media influencer and host. As the most stoic and wise. Vince asked, “What is the vision you see for yourself in the future, 5 or 10 years from now? For me, the ultimate goal would be freedom. Because I don’t want to be the person 20 or 30 years from now as the old man filled with regret. You want to have as little regret you as possible when you’re about to pass away. Yes, the doubt will always be there. But the question would be, is your doubt stronger than your perseverance?”
A refreshing inclusion to the group, the lovely lady voice talent, creator, podcaster Inka Magnaye unloaded a whole lot of smarts. “Do the hard work now and then later, it’s on automatic. I want to be automatic when I’m older and when I don’t have a lot of energy anymore. (Create the means) to just be running by itself. I’m figuring out today, what can I do to make that happen? You break down the little steps. It’s hard now, but the payoff later is going to be what great.”
Don’t let this skater kid incarnate, former agency creative-turned-graphic artist and painter, social media creator fool you. Raco Ruiz can withstand a strong breeze. On the cycle of staying inspired, he shares, “I’m so excited (about work) at the start. I want to do this crazy idea. Midway through it, Why did I sign up for this? But, by the end of it, Oh, I did it. Then I forget all the drama.
Part of staying inspired is getting the other stuff out of the way. Raco adds, “I highly recommend for any artist to get someone who’s good at management because they help me so much. If you’re a creative and you can focus solely on the creative part, that’s so ideal.”
Filipino standup comedian with his own Netflix show streaming in 191 countries, Red Ollero is massive. Also a former ad agency creative, Red entered stand-up comedy only to be hindered by lockdown. Extending the format to zoom, and learning to manipulate social media—IG in particular— to market and keep the stories going, Red gave audiences a deeper appreciation of stand-up comedy. Says Red, “It’s very hard to figure out what you’re doing, setting a road map and KPIs. Most of the time, be happy that people are watching, and appreciate what you’re doing, and be thankful for the word-of-mouth you get. Prepare for the time opportunity comes, and if it doesn’t come, create the opportunity.”
Sugar and spice, the creator’s journey is not everything nice. The journey, the cycle, the outcomes are coated with successes and challenges where balancing creativity with business acumen, cultivating and maintaining authenticity, and persevering through all the ups and downs are just a few of the many hurdles thrown at the profession. Yet, these challenges, if tackled strategically, can lead to long-term success and financial freedom.
