Quezon City, Philippines – As the much-awaited 2nd Philippine International Copyright Summit opens, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has called on participants to join its free creative workshops and talks, scheduled throughout the five-day event.
The workshops cover paper cutting, songwriting, dancing, storytelling, photography, watercolor painting and miniature art and will take place from October 21-25, 2024 at the Novotel Manila Araneta City.
The activities are part of the 2nd PICS, the country’s biggest copyright event organized by IPOPHL’s Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights. With the theme “Unlocking the Future: Tech Trends and Challenges in Copyright,” the 2nd PICS will explore the convergence of copyright law and technological advancements, including artificial intelligence and how these developments are shaping the creative industries in the Philippines and beyond.
Kicking off the creative workshops on the first day (Oct. 21, Monday) the renowned founder of the Paper Cutters Guild of the Philippines, Badz Magsumbol, led an intricate paper cutting workshop. Here, participants learned essential cutting techniques and pushed their imagination as they transformed simple paper into works of art.
To find your soul through song, Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Vice-President Rodolfo “Tito” Cayamanda, Jr. teaches participants on the second day (Oct. 22, Tuesday) to develop original song compositions, from crafting captivating melodies to writing lyrics that speak to the heart.
On the same day, PICS participants also stepped into the rhythm with Choreographer and Professional Dancer Karl Francis L. Moreno who led a session on exploring creative expression beyond words and through movement, from fluid motions to bold choreography.
The fun continues on the fourth day (Oct. 24, Thursday) for the rest of the workshops. Storyteller Teacher Mary Melody-Remorca led the storytelling workshop and showed how to share and structure stories in a way that captivates hearts. For photography, Assistant Division Chief of the BCRR’s Accreditation and Standards Division Exequiel Valerio shared basic photography tips on framing, lighting and finding the perfect shot.
Participants for the watercolor painting interacted with Artist Welfare Project, Inc. (AWPI) Executive Director Jennifer Lee-Bonto on basics in creating pigments, layering colors and blending, along with showcasing different types of brush strokes.
Meanwhile, Miniature Artist Nhoda Munoz immersed participants in the whimsical world of miniature art where creations fit right into the palm of their hands—which allowed them to play, admire the details and draw inspiration from the tiny masterpieces.
“Whether you’re honing your talent, broadening your skill sets, or discovering a new artistic passion, these short workshops offers enjoyable and adventurous experience perfect for any curious creative soul,” said IPOPHL’s Bureau of Copyright and Related Rights Director Emerson G. Cuyo.
